Topical Discussion Week Two Feature Development

Hello Everyone, In continuation with last week's general discussion and to open up AI discussion before ELUNA, I wanted to see if there are AI features you have seen from other products that you might like to incorporate into one of the Ex Libris products or if there is functionality that seems not quite there. There was a discussion from last week about virtual keyboard integration for non-roman alphabet languages. There is an older Suggest an Idea<https://ideas.exlibrisgroup.com/forums/308176-primo/suggestions/38682451-add...> on this very concept. I am unsure if there is an enhancement request for the same this year. If this is a broad enough concern, then it might be something for the Primo working group to consider. Are there other AI features that you have seen in other products? Feel free to also continue last week's discussion on problems/issues. I am finding the ability of the Primo AI to identify specific articles from individual schools problematic and have sent in several corrective feedbacks for AI training purposes. *Are there other AI features that you have seen in other products?* I appreciate how Deep Research tools (like ChatGPT and Gemini) explain their process in detail—how they’re searching, selecting sources, and synthesizing information. In contrast, the Primo Research Assistant only mentions that it’s “searching for relevant resources” and “generating an overview” based on the five most relevant ones. It would be amazing if it could go a step further and show more of *how* it works in real time. What exactly is the process for determining relevance? Watching that unfold could be a great learning opportunity for community college students who want to understand research strategies and source evaluation. Thanks for sparking this conversation! On a similar note to what Ann is saying, I think there are ways of using the AI model integrations to re-enforce information literacy rather than skirt around it. There was a pilot for AI aided search in ProQuest a while ago (is it live now?) which took natural language questions and turned them into Boulian search strings in a visible way. I think this would be a great value-add for Primo Research Assistant for instance. Have the AI "show it's work" basically in turning the user's question into a RAG query into a search result which is then summarized. I have found ChatGPT much more usable since it started making both sources used and computational steps done more apparent. I'd like to see more of that.
