Hello everyone, The group working on the transition from the Western Canadian User Group to CANRUG is in the process of planning CANRUG’s first Annual General Meeting (AGM). The AGM is scheduled for: Date: Thursday, May 8, 2025 Time: 10:00 AM PDT/11:00 AM MDT12:00 PM CDT/1:00 PM EDT/2:00 PM ADT/2:30 PM NDT Please hold the time in your calendars. The meeting will be held online via Zoom and will last approximately 2 hours (the first hour will be for official business, the second hour will be for optional socialization). I’ll follow up next week with a registration link and the full AGM meeting package. After the AGM, we’ll begin the process for CANRUG’s first election and an online vote on the draft by-laws. We expect to announce the results of both before ELUNA. Question: how to set-up SSO with ALMA when PeopleSoft records don't contain the institutional Microsoft account identifier

Hello, I’m searching for an explanation and then perhaps documentation. Lakeland College’s Student Information System is PeopleSoft. As we migrate to ALMA, we’d like to import and synchronize student users from PeopleSoft to ALMA (which I am learning is considered as setting up an External user). Our institution’s IT department uses Microsoft Azure/Entra ID for Identity Management (students use their institutional Microsoft account for access to D2L as well as computer access on-campus). We wish for our students to be able to authenticate to view their account in ALMA/PRIMO using their institutional Microsoft account. But our students’ institutional Microsoft account information is not currently added to their records in PeopleSoft, therefore it will not appear in our user records in ALMA. I'm concerned that without a student's institutional email address appearing in their ALMA account, they won't be able to sign-in to their library account. How do other institutions import their students' Microsoft email addresses into ALMA? My main responsibilities are reference and instruction, so I am over my head on this aspect of our migration project! Ben

Accessibility gathering! April 29th

Accessibility Champions! A gathering is happening! Ex Libris customers are invited to an event hosted by the Collaborative Futures Accessibility subcommittee. Relay this invitation to others you know! Improving the experiences of people with disabilities is an individual and collective responsibility. Learning about Disabilities and Academia: Listening to User Testimony Users with disabilities often share their experiences so others can better understand how to remove obstacles. The OCUL Collaborative Futures Accessibility subcommittee (CFA) invites university and colleges that use Primo VE or Alma to come together to broaden our understanding of users by watching and discussing parts of the 2024 ArXiv Accessibility forum. As a group, we’ll watch parts of “Deaf Hub at RIT,” a presentation about the ways deaf and hard of hearing researchers navigate academia, followed by parts of “Sonification,” which explores multi-model research outputs in science that go beyond the visual. How are you communicating with your users about the benefits/limitations of the tool (e.g. webpage etc)? Has anything surprising come up as a result of enabling this tool? Upcoming vacancy on the Leganto Product Working Group

Hi everyone, For the past number of years, I have been the lone Canadian member of the ELUNA Leganto Product Working Group but as of July I will be stepping down. It would be great if we could have another Canadian to take my place in the group. The group currently meets virtually for maximum of an hour on the first Friday of the month at 11am Eastern. Typically, each member of the group has an assigned task that generally doesn't take more than an hour or 2 a month, so the time commitment is relatively light. It is the most demanding around the time of enhancements as the group vets the requests before voting occurs. We occasionally have meetings that include the Ex Libris Leganto Product Manager, Jessie Ransom. It is a really great group and would recommend it as all of the members are quite engaged. It is a great learning opportunity! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. The Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) Accessibility Community invites proposals for the Accessibility Symposium 2.0<https://ocul.on.ca/accessibility-symposium#call-for-proposals>. This free event will be hosted virtually by Zoom, on: * Tuesday June 17th, 2025 9:30am to 12:30pm Eastern * Wednesday June 18th, 9:30am to 12:30pm Eastern * Thursday June 19th, 9:30am to 12:30pm Eastern Symposium overview Around the world, post-secondary libraries are recognizing accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities as a shared priority. In Ontario, 2025 was intended to mark a compliance milestone for the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). However, we recognize that much work remains to be done. This symposium seeks presentations and discussions that will reflect on the progress made over the past 20 years and envision a more ambitious and inclusive future for accessibility in academic libraries. Proposed topics The symposium planning committee is seeking proposals for presentations and panel talks that explore critical topics in improving accessibility and the experiences of people with disabilities using, and working in, libraries in Ontario's post-secondary landscape. We invite proposals from librarians, library staff, faculty, students, and community members, on topics relating to: * Changes and developments related to the provision of alternative formats * Post-secondary education standards and compliance in higher education * Addressing physical barriers and creating accessible spaces in libraries * Advancements in assistive technologies, including artificial intelligence * Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and beyond * Accessibility legislation, such as The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) * Evaluating progress and ongoing challenges in removing accessibility barriers in post-secondary libraries (for example, since the AODA deadline for a full accessible Ontario has passed on January 1, 2025) * Accessible procurement * Employment: recruitment, retention, and accommodations in libraries * Lived experiences and user-centred perspectives This symposium is open to attendees from beyond Ontario.
