Engaging Vendors on E-Resource Accessibility

Dear CoP Collective Wisdom, I'm excited to be part of this community and look forward to learning from you all. One challenge I've been working through is how to engage vendors in more productive conversations about electronic resource accessibility-particularly during the purchase evaluation process but also throughout the entire e-resource lifecycle. While accessibility is often framed as a compliance issue, I'm interested in reframing the conversation to position it as a value-add that enhances usability for all users, broadens market reach, and differentiates vendors from their competitors. Have you found particular approaches that resonate with vendors? For example: * Effective framing strategies that lead to real commitments * Contractual language or requirements that have helped secure accessibility improvements * Methods for holding vendors accountable beyond initial promises I'd love to hear what has worked (or hasn't) in your experience. Hi everyone, (could someone please relay this to IGeLU list?) I wanted to let the wider community know about this motion recently passed at a meeting of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL)'s Collaborative Futures Accessibility<https://ocul.on.ca/cf-accessibility-subcommittee> (CFA) sub-committee. If your library or consortium is advancing initiatives within Primo VE, Alma, RapidILL, etc. * to proactively remove obstacles that disadvantage individuals with disabilities or * to add features that improve the user experience for people with disabilities, then please email me as CFA would like to build connections with you. OCUL = Ontario Council of University Libraries CFA = OCUL's Collaborative Futures Accessibility (CFA) sub-committee. Whereas CFA is also founded on the understanding that accessibility is a collective responsibility requiring collaboration and consultation across OCUL member institutions, Whereas Collaborative Future Accessibility sub-committee (CFA) has a responsibility to proactively identify and remove existing and potential barriers, Whereas CFA is to champion proactively identifying and removing barriers that disadvantage individuals with disabilities Whereas an ELUNA/IGeLU Accessibility Community of Practice has been formed and the ExLibris Canadian Regional User Group (CANRUG) has been formed. Be it resolved that Collaborative Future Accessibility sub-committee recognizes that its responsibility to proactively identify and remove obstacles that disadvantage individuals with disabilities and to champion accessibility exists within a widening collective responsibility that includes OCUL members, ELUNA/IGELU and CANRUG. Hi all, So glad this list is here and grateful in advance for your help. When creating an email or a document with a QR Code, do screen readers treat those any differently than other images? I'm assuming I should still provide alt-text but wanted to make certain nothing more is needed. Web accessibility/usability and ExL Documentation

Hello, I posted about this to Alma-L earlier and Holli suggested I post over here too as it pertains to accessibility. This morning I noticed that the Alma documentation page (knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com) suddenly had much worse contrast for links and other UI elements. (The links had seemingly gone from #00F to #30B3F6 over the weekend for starters, which results in very low contrast any time a link appears.) From the thread on Alma-L it looks like some people are seeing the change I've seen, but it also doesn't appear to be rolled out to everyone yet. As I know this is a relatively new CoP I'm not sure what's already been discussed where, but I'm curious if there's any obvious known way to give feedback on the documentation pages. There seem to be mechanisms for bringing up accessibility/usability issues for Alma/Primo/etc. but it's less clear where issues with the interface for the support site go. I have my own accessibility concerns with it just personally, but I also know as someone who has studied web usability and accessibility that it can be an issue for many users. (Personally, I'm finding it even hard to skim the page because the links blend into the background more than they should.) Documentation and/or tutorials for using assistive technologies with Alma and Primo

Greetings! *Apologies in advance for cross-posting. This question crosses the topics of accessibility, Alma, and Primo.* Members from Orbis Cascade Alliance have been discussing ways to improve proactive support for our end users and colleagues who use assistive technologies in their interactions with Alma and Primo. We’re curious to know if anyone has created documentation and/or tutorials with recommended practices or tips and tricks for using these technologies. Examples of assistive technologies include but are not limited to: - Screen readers, such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (Mac) - Screen magnifiers, such as Magnifier (Windows), Zoom (Mac) - Speech-to-text, such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Speech Recognition/Voice Access (Windows), VoiceControl (Mac) - Text-to-speech and/or literacy support, such as Read&Write, Balabolka, Open Dyslexic - Keyboard-only navigation Some sample scenarios include: - A student who uses VoiceOver and has an assignment for class that requires accessing electronic course reserves in Alma Digital. - An instructor who uses NVDA and is searching for scholarly articles in Primo. - A library worker who uses keyboard-only navigation and updates records in Alma.
