Potomac Technical Processing Librarians (PTPL) <http://www.potomactechlibrarians.org/> announces the availability of two $1,000 scholarships for future librarians interested in technical services. Students living or working in the PTPL membership region (DC, Maryland, Virginia) and who are currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited Library and/or Information Science program, including distance education programs, are invited to apply. Criteria Requirements for the Award: The applicant must 1. be a full or part-time student in an ALA-accredited Library and/or Information Science at the Master's level at the time of the award and have completed at least one three-hour credit course; 2. demonstrate an interest in library technical services through employment, course of study, or research interests. Technical services work centers on the "…acquisition, identification, cataloging, classification, and preservation of all kinds of library materials." (see: ALCTS, http://www.ala.org/alcts/about) and; 3. be employed or living in the PTPL membership region (Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia). *Please excuse cross postings* The Virginia Community College System Office in Richmond, Va. invites applications from energetic, service-minded professionals for our Coordinator of Library Systems Administration position. This position will serve as the Systems Librarian for VCCS library automation systems and provide a variety of online library support services while working in close collaboration with the Director of Library Services, college libraries, VCCS Information Technology Services, and Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA) consortium staff. Management of the library systems includes all the components of ExLibris Primo, Aleph, Metalib, and SFX; college-specific EzProxy servers; QuestionPoint Virtual Reference Service; and bepress' Digital Commons @VCCS repository. The VCCS shared library systems support the System Office and 23 colleges with more than 40 locations. Minimum Qualifications: * An MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program with at least two years of experience in library system management * Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks in a complex and changing environment, including balancing long-term projects and being responsive to more immediate support needs * Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively * Knowledge of integrated library systems and library-related data standards and formats, including MARC, z39.50, OpenURL, etc. * Functional knowledge of the UNIX operating system and PERL required * Experience managing remote user authentication required, and experience with EzProxy is highly desirable. Preferred: * Administrative experience with ExLibris library systems (Aleph, SFX, and Primo) and large, multi-library system operations * Familiarity with uniform resource management systems such as ExLibris Alma * Experience with the community college library environment * Several years' experience with UNIX system administration and programming in a complex computing environment. The ideal candidate possesses the initiative, flexibility, and creativity to manage projects both independently and as part of a two-person team in a dynamic work environment. The successful candidate will be an innovative, collaborative, service oriented librarian having experience with the eresources life cycle including licensing, procurement, eresources management and problem resolution. RESPONSIBILITIES: Negotiate and manage licenses, their expiration and renewal. Evaluate license agreements to determine compliance with the University Libraries’ licensing policy and communicate across the University libraries to promote mutual understanding of e-resource licensing terms and principles. Establish and maintain communications with vendors, publishers, and consortia to understand new products, services, enhancements to products; evaluate the impacts on the overall e-resources strategy as well as changing business models on the collections budget. Create and communicate cost analysis of new and renewed purchases. Prepare management reports that support assessment of eresource collections. Collaborate with Associate Director of Scholarly Resources and Special Collections, Technical Services librarians, and financial staff in monitoring $9M+ eresource budget. Enhance expertise in all aspects of e-resource management through participation in workshops, webinars, professional associations and networks, and through continued awareness of the scholarly research process. QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school . Two or more years of experience supporting electronic resource lifecycle activities in a large academic or research library. Demonstrated ability working with the complex electronic publishing environment to negotiate licenses for electronic content and to manage renewal of electronic resource subscriptions. Knowledge of copyright and Intellectual Property issues, electronic resource management, link resolver software, and integrated library systems. Strong commitment to collaboration, quality service and innovation. Commitment to using new technology to advance work goals and to enhance service. Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills in an environment requiring attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Ability to meet project deadlines. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
