In this course, participants will learn how to:
• navigate and search the RDA Toolkit
• personalize the Toolkit
• take advantage of user-contributed content
• locate help and additional resources
Participants will receive temporary RDA Toolkit login information.
Tim Carlton is a Senior Instructor in the Cooperative and Instructional
Programs Division of the Library of Congress. Over the last 4 years, he
helped plan, develop, coordinate, deliver, and monitor the comprehensive
36-hour training of over 450 LC staff for RDA, and he is currently
developing related follow-up training and ‘performance support’.

Due to generous benefactors, we’re able to offer this workshop at the low
registration rate of only $65.
Note: Meals will NOT be provided; food and drink are not allowed in the
classroom.
The John Adams Building is located behind the Jefferson Building on 2nd
Street, S.E. Entrance is permitted into the building at 8:30 am.

PTPL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT 2014
Potomac Technical Processing Librarians (PTPL) announces the availability
of two $1,000 scholarships for future librarians interested in technical
services. Students living or working in the PTPL membership region (DC,
Maryland, Virginia) and who are currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited
Library and/or Information Science program, including distance education
programs, are invited to apply.
Criteria Requirements for the Award:
1. The applicant must be a full or part-time student in an ALA-accredited
Library and/or Information Science at the Master's level at the time of the
award and have completed at least one three-hour credit course;
2. demonstrate an interest in library technical services through
employment, course of study, or research interests. Technical services work
centers on the "…acquisition, identification, cataloging, classification,
and preservation of all kinds of library materials." (see: ALCTS,
http://www.ala.org/alcts/about) and;
3. be employed or living in the PTPL membership region (Virginia, Maryland
and the District of Columbia).
To apply, please submit the following materials:
1. PTPL scholarship application
2. Two written references (see below for details)
3. Current resume
4. One-page, double spaced statement of the applicant’s interest in library
technical services
Please submit all materials in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or plain text
(.txt) format to Mark Winek at mdw65(a)georgetown.edu.
References are accepted from two faculty members OR one faculty member and
your current supervisor. References should be able to address your
potential or experience in library technical services. Letters may be
emailed directly from the faculty member or your supervisor to Mark Winek
at mdw65(a)georgetown.edu.
Incomplete application packets and those received after the application
deadline will not be considered.
DEADLINE TO APPLY: June 27, 2014 at 11:59 PM EDT
Recipients will be notified by August 29, 2014, and publicly awarded at the
annual PTPL meeting in the fall. The recipients will receive a free
one-year membership in PTPL and have registration fees for the annual
conference waived.
