Ex Libris AI Products – Weekly Topical Bugs/Issues. What ongoing bugs/issues have you encountered, and in what product?

Hi Everyone, I thought I would start a discussion this week on any known bugs you have seen and any resulting support cases that you may have submitted to Ex Libris. This can be on any Ex Libris AI product. Any bugs shares will be compiled and shared with the respective working groups. I would also share any Clarivate/ProQuest bugs as well, as Clarivate staff are part of this listserv. Thanks again, Davin Pate, M.L.S. Hi Davin, We had an issue with the Primo Research Assistant, where the author order is being changed from the original article metadata when it is coming back as a top 5 result. e.g., for the search “Find recent research about how vitamin D deficiency impact overall health” one of the 5 articles is “Can Vıtamın D Reduce the Need for SSRI by Modulatıng Serotonın Synthesıs?: A Revıew of Recent Lıterature” It looks like this in RA: [cid:image002.png@01DBB9AF.269313B0] But the journal has the author order as follows: [cid:image003.png@01DBB9AF.269313B0] Our subject librarians are unhappy with this, as it may cause issues for students in their bibliographies/referencing. Hi Davin and Ai-sig, Not a bug/issue, more of an observation. I’ve been doing a lot of original cataloging lately and after I import the bib record into Alma, I like to run the “Enhance with AI Assistant” feature. I like to have as many access points as possible, especially in the 65X fields, and find the feature useful for that. The problem is that it repeats other fields unnecessarily, e.g., I will have an author in the 100 field and the AI Assistant will create a 700 field with the exact same information. Just yesterday, I was working on a bulletin from the 1800s and AI Assistant automatically added 490/830 fields, even though this bulletin wasn’t part of a series. I like and will continue to use the feature, but I will continue to review each record for accuracy. I had an odd experience with the AI Metadata Assistant where I uploaded photos of a lengthy table of contents, hoping for a reasonably accurate 505. The metadata assistant created a 505 that had a few of the entries listed accurately, and then several made-up entries—titles and authors that were not in the photos I uploaded. I suppose they were statistically probable entries, but that wasn’t the goal… and most of the entries were not there at all (perhaps it has difficulty making sense of a ToC that stretches over more than one page). -- Jeff Karlsen Technical Services Librarian Sacramento City College (916) 558-2583 KarlseJ@scc.losrios.edu Pronouns: he, him https://scc.losrios.edu/library From: Pate, Davin <djp130330@utdallas.edu> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2025 2:04 PM To: Frye, Deborah (Debbie) <dfrye@usgs.gov>; ai-sig@exlibrisusers.org Subject: [Ai-sig] Re: [EXTERNAL] Ex Libris AI Products – Weekly Topical Bugs/Issues. Hi Jeff, I also had a problem with a photo this week. I created a bib record for a photo of John Wesley Powell from one of his expeditions (1870s) and listed the caption in the 500 field. The caption included the last names of other people in the photo. I also included an 856 with the URL for the photo. AI Metadata Assistant added 700 fields for the list of captioned names, but most were wrong. Either it listed someone not mentioned in the 500 field or someone with the same last name but wrong first name. I’m grateful the AI Metadata Assistant highlights changes it makes in purple so it’s easy to edit or remove the field! Your theory makes sense. Each LLM has its own maximum number of tokens it accepts in the context window. It’s probably inefficient to split the TOC into multiple images for OCR conversion, but the models are growing larger context windows every day. Let us know if you try it though. What ongoing bugs/issues have you encountered, and in what product? **External Email** I had an odd experience with the AI Metadata Assistant where I uploaded photos of a lengthy table of contents, hoping for a reasonably accurate 505. -- Jeff Karlsen Technical Services Librarian Sacramento City College (916) 558-2583 KarlseJ@scc.losrios.edu<mailto:KarlseJ@scc.losrios.edu> Pronouns: he, him https://scc.losrios.edu/library From: Pate, Davin <djp130330@utdallas.edu<mailto:djp130330@utdallas.edu>> Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2025 2:04 PM To: Frye, Deborah (Debbie) <dfrye@usgs.gov<mailto:dfrye@usgs.gov>>; ai-sig@exlibrisusers.org<mailto:ai-sig@exlibrisusers.org> Subject: [Ai-sig] Re: [EXTERNAL] Ex Libris AI Products – Weekly Topical Bugs/Issues. What ongoing bugs/issues have you encountered, and in what product? What ongoing bugs/issues have you encountered, and in what product? Your theory makes sense. Each LLM has its own maximum number of tokens it accepts in the context window. It’s probably inefficient to split the TOC into multiple images for OCR conversion, but the models are growing larger context windows every day. Let us know if you try it though.
